Richard Montgomery led one army to Montreal from Fort Ticonderoga. He gained that city in November 1775. After that, he headed he towards Quebec. Benedict Arnold led the second army through Maine, going North. In the winter, they had a harsh time. Rainstorms turned their clothing to ice, and supplies were low.
