The Communist led by Mao Zedong were able to take the Nationalist from power The Nationalist leader Chiang Kai-shek fled with his supporters to Taiwan where they would form their own government. Meanwhile in China, the Communist formed the People’s republic of China. During the war, around 1 million killed and the U.S. who supported the Nationalist, refused to recognize the new Chinese government.
