The Unification of Germany happened in 1871 and was the result of Otto von Bismarck, a wealthy landowner, and prime minister. He created a large army and fought 3 wars with Denmark, Austria, and France. In all of the wars, the Prussian forces dominated the opponents, which swelled their pride. He then proclaimed himself the emperor of the Second German Empire, following the Holy Roman Empire, which embraced all German-speaking people outside Austria and Switzerland.
