Blocked by Germany, Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia after the assassination of France Ferdinand. Russia was determined to support Serbia so they offered the mobilizations of their forces, then Germany declared war on Russia August 1, 1914. By August 4 all the great powers of Europe were at war.
