The UN was created in response to Nazi atrocities. This made "wars of aggression" and "crimes against humanity" a punishable offense. The UN is a model of the failed League of Nations and it works to maintain international peace and security. They also promote economic development of nations. The UN is still in place today and 191 countries are a part of it.
