The Berlin Airlift was a massive event caused by the blockade that the USSR had put across USSR-Controlled Germany. This blockade prevented travel within Germany, prevented people from escaping, and starved the people of the country. Because of this, the president of the US decided that it would be a dandy idea to help out and send food and supplies over to the communist lands, so as to show that "We are still here" and that "We still believe you can choose the side who chooses to feed you rather than starve you"
