Hitler’s continual inability to balance military strategy and ideology would prove disastrous in his exploits on the Eastern front. Hitler had no military experience apart from his short time as a foot soldier in WWI, during which he was quickly injured and sent to recover in a hospital for the rest of the war. His delusional confidence in the “Final Victory” led to a strategy in Russia that essentially amounted to holding every position to the last man and believing that that would be enough to repel Soviet forces.
