PRI was founded in 1929 and was originally called the National Revolutionary Party. It was founded by revolutionary Plutarco Elias Calles who was president from 1914-1920. At the time, it was the main political party in Mexico and made up of Mexican politicians, military leaders, labor unions, and regional parties.
