Mormon was able to bring his armies together in the city of Angola. There they fortified the city and entrenched themselves, hoping to stop the Lamanites advance.
However, the Lamanites came against them in their might and soon the city fell and the Nephites once again fled.
It is not unlikely that the fortifications were done during the winter months when it was hard to fight, making it the next year that it fell to the Lamanites.
