The new Gadianton Robbers caused such havoc and destruction that the Lamanites and Nephites joined together to fight against them. They formed a large army and sent it into the mountains to hunt out the robbers.

However, the robbers were so well entrenched in the mountains that the army was unable to meet them in open battle. They were soon driven from the mountains and returned to their own land in defeat.
