Ethiopia was renowned for its fierce independence and military dominance, and so the state of Ethiopia spent nearly 8 centuries without being meaningfully conquered or colonized. The sovereignty of Ethiopia only saw a 5-year gap during World War II, when it was occupied by Italy.)
