(Date approximate) (The Kingdom of Abkhazia broke away from the Byzantines around this time, and remained independent until 1008 when it united with the Kingdom of Iberia, forming the Kingdom of Georgia. While Abkhazia remained linked with Georgia from then on, the unique Abkhaz identity would remain, laying the seeds for declared independence in 1991.)
