Scholars from Napoleon's expedition uncovered the stone near the Rosetta branch of the Nile.
The stone is made up of three panels containing Greek, demotic Egyptian, and ancient hieroglyphic Egyptian. The Greek statement was used to translate the Egyptian statements and to develop a way to translate the languages. This process took 23 years of intense study.
