The USA PATRIOT Act stands for Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism. This act passed almost unanimously with a Senate vote of 98-1 and a House vote of 357-66. The purpose of the act is to punish and stop terrorist acts and further law enforcement investigation tools and to use special scrutiny on foreign relations and jurisdictions as well as stopping foreign criminal abuse of U.S. financial systems.
