After their armies in Antiparah were destroyed the Lamanites began to get uneasy. Then they saw Helaman's determination to come against the city itself rather than accepting Ammoron's offer.
Fearing the strength of the Nephites the Lamanites in Antiparah simply fled the city, going to join other Lamanite armies in the west.

So, Helaman marched his armies into the city and took it without any fighting.
