The Bessemer Process was developed by Englishman Henry Bessemer to create steel from iron cheaply and efficiently. When it was invented, architects from across the United States used it to build strong railways, machines, and skyscrapers tremendously altering the infrastructure of America. Even though British engineer, Henry Bessemer was the first to discover this useful method, a man named William Kelly later discovered and patented it independently in the United States. This invention led to the huge expansion of steel for the use of railroads, cars, and buildings. Between 1880 to 1910, the manufacturing of steel production increased by a factor of 20 in the United States. Andrew Carnegie largely profitted by this creation because he later founded the nation's first steel plant and sold his monopoly for over $470 million. It also largely contributed the the weaponry of World War II.
