World War I, also known as the Great War was a global war lasting for approximately 4 years. It began after the assassination of the Archduke Franz Ferdinand. The Central Powers comprised of Germany, Austria-Hungary, Bulgaria, and the Ottoman Empire went up against the Allied Powers of Britain, France, Russia, Italy, Romania, Japan, and the US.
