Abish was a Lamanite who had been converted sometime before Ammon preached to King Lamoni. Her conversion came as the result of a vision her father had.
I place the vision at this point as I believe that her father was a young soldier who was assigned to guard either the people of Zeniff or the people of Alma. In this he came into contact with the gospel, and after the two groups had escaped he began to pray about what he had learned.
Abish would have been born at this time or shortly after.
