After the disastrous ending of the first expedition Zeniff was still very zealous to reclaim the Land of Nephi. So he again began to gather people together to go on another expedition, this time with himself as the leader. He likely acknowledged his plan to make peace, and thus ensured that the conflict that destroyed the first expedition would not be repeated.

In this expedition he was successful, and the king of the Lamanites (named Laman) gave them the Land of Nephi, and the Land of Shilom.
