On September 11, 2001, nineteen al Qaeda terrorists (who were associates of Osama Bin Laden) hijacked four U.S. airliners in an attempt to crash them into various building across the country. Two of the planes flew into the World Trade Centers in New York City, one crashed into the Pentagon, and the fourth one crashed into a field in Pennsylvania. In total, more than 3,000 people died in the attacks. The reasons for why al Qaeda did this was because they were mad at the U.S. for American involvement in the Middle East such as the Persian Gulf War, America's support of Israel, and Islamic justifications.
