104 English settlers, funded by the Virginia Joint Stock Company, founded the Jamestown Colony. The Jamestown colony was conceived in order to make money for the investors in the Virginia Company as well as give the colonizers a new life in the New World. Jamestown colonizers faced major hardships like starvation and inclement weather, but none the less it was the first successful colony in the Americas.
