26 июн 1599 г. - XVII century. Classical form of language

Описание:

John Locke had made specific proposals for curriculum reform and for changes in the way Latin was taught, but since Latin had for so long been regarded as the classical and therefore most ideal form of language, it was not surprising that ideas about the role of language study in the curriculum reflected the long-established status for Latin.

Children entering "grammar school" in the seventeenth century in England were initially given

-a rigorous introduction to Latin grammar (which was taught through rote learning of grammar rules) -the study of declensions and conjugations
-translation
-practice in writing sample sentences (sometimes with the use of parallel bilingual texts) and,
-dialogue.

The Language Teaching approaches in the XVII century are:

-Vernaculars had gained prestige
-The first attempt to establish a method
-The first attempt came from Czech scholar Johann Comenius (1631)
