Because of Louis XVI's disparaging remarks about the National Assembly and its representative platform, those that supported such concepts became disgusted with Louis XVI's hubris. Peasants living in Paris collectively decided to storm the military castle of Bastille, not only to make a statement but to continue to make steps towards officially overthrowing their oppressive monarch.
