The fall of Saigon marks the last battle of the Vietnam war as the North fully takes over the South, returning the country wholly and making it a communist nation. The last US casualties were recorded to be from the US embassy, two marines had been killed trying to defend others as they escaped by helicopter. Political leaders also fled the country and anyone associated with the government was rounded up and sent to re-education camps, or were killed.
People would often flee by boat in hopes to escaping the communist controlled country. But they were met with many difficulties such as poorly made rafts, pirates, and countries unwilling to take in the fleeing immigrants.
