0 ч 1 мин, 1 янв 1868 г. - The Red River Resistance and the Sale of Rupert's Land

Описание:

In 1868 the Hudson Bay company was preparing to sell Rupert's Land, which included a large portion of present-day southern Alberta, most of Saskatchewan, all of Manitoba, northern Ontario, the northwest half of Quebec and all of Nunavut, to the Canadian Government. However, the government did not include any consultation with the First Nations and Metis who lived on Rupert's land. But the Canadian government promised to uphold the British laws and recognize Aboriginal land titles, which allowed the First Nations to have a designated land to stay in. Sadly this law was not extended to the Metis causing them to become worried that their land was going to be taken away after being sold to the Canadian government. The conflict between these two groups is now known as the Red River Resistance.
