-It upheld the constitutionality of racial segregation laws for public facilities as long as the segregated facilities were equal in quality – a doctrine that came to be known as "separate but equal".

- A major cause of this action was because of the segregation on the trains and pubic transport. Many African Americans were tired of the segregation and made a difference.
- A major effect of this was that the court upheld the constitutionaly of segregation through "separate but equal." This was a major setback for the civil rights.
