Elizabeth Poe dies of tuberculosis, and a few days after, David Poe also dies of tuberculosis. Soon after, the family splits into three. Henry goes to live with his paternal grandparents, Edgar lives with a Richmond couple, and Elizabeth lives with another Richmond couple.
