The Mali Empire was a kingdom in West Africa that preceded the Kingdom of Ghana. It was also an important location for sub-Saharan trade. Mansa Musa was a Muslim emperor of Mali who went on the Hajj. While on the Hajj he gave gifts to the cities that he stopped in. He caused the value of gold to decrease a large amount because of allof the gold he introduced to the market.
