1271 CE - 1295 CE Marco Polo traveled to China as a merchant and an explorer with his father and uncle, Niccolo and Maffeo respectively. Marco was not the first European to travel to China, but he was the first (and is known for) his chronicles of his travels to China. The Book of Marvels of the World, is written by Marco Polo, in which he discusses the great strength and wealth of China, providing Europeans their first insight into the Chinese region. (3.1)
