1 янв 1054 г. - Schism between eastern and western Christian Church
Описание:
In 1054, the Eastern Orthodox leader (Michael Cerularius) and the Roman Catholic leader (Pope Leo IX) excommunicated each other. One of the reasons for the split was due to the Eastern Orthodox belief that the Emperor of the Byzantine Empire was also the pope - this is known as caesaropapism. The Roman Catholic church believed that the two entities should be separate from one another - that the Pope had more power over the emperor or king. Another reason for the split was due to the iconoclasm of the Byzantines. The Eastern Orthodox church didn’t believe in having icons or symbols of religious figures in their places of worship, but the Roman Catholics did. (3.1)
