26 янв 1920 г. - "Residential Schools Are Essential"
Описание:
In 1920, the deputy superintendent of Indian Affairs, Duncan Campbell Scott, released a statement saying that residential schools were essential to Canada's policy: ""Residential Schools were established to get rid of the Indian problem... Our objective is to continue until there is not a single Indian in Canada that has not been absorbed into the body politic and there is no more Indian Question and no Indian Department."" (Racette, 2009, p. 50). It is clear that statements like these had a huge impact on Indigenous communities across Canada, even still today. These are potentially the parents of the children that we are teaching and these impacts will still be felt in our classrooms.
