On August 4, 1977, 3,000 protestors formed a barricade to prevent the eviction of 150 elderly occupants in the I-Hotel. 400 riot police on horseback charged through the barricade and forcibly evicted the elders.Significance: I-Hotel was seen as a permanent home for many old Asian people. Sympathetic Asian American activists stood up against the racist urban redevelopment and police brutality.
