This is the earliest "oracle bone" caches with archaic Chinese writing. Seekers of Guidance would consult a diviner would would ask questions of the ancestors. The bones would be cracked and the cracks would be interpreted as answers and the information incised in the bone. These symbols were ancient versions of modern day characteristics. These were significant political and religious ritual vessels and ensured that some knowledge of them would be deserved.
