Invented in April, 1793 by Eli Whitney. Farming cotton before this invention required hundreds of hours to separate the seeds from the cotton. His invention of the cotton gin revolutionized the way cotton farmers worked by minimized the time usage. They no longer needed as many slaves and were able to produce more cotton. The cotton gin not only changed the process of cotton farming but encouraged the abolition of slavery.
