On August 24, 1572, St. Bartholemew's Day Massacre took place. In this event, French Calvinists, better known as Huguenots, were brutally beaten and even killed after the marriage of Henry IV and Margarite. This event showed the immense resent towards Huguenots that other French citizens had, leading up to Edict of Nantes' signing.
