John Stewart Mill's book On Liberty is a piece of mind from someone who believed in the freedom of expression and wished to rid the world of censorship by the government or the public. The major points held by Mill in the chapters "Of the Liberty of Thought and Discussion 1 & 2" went as such:

1. Even though people may be wrong, they still have a duty to act on their "conscientious conviction."

2. People should be taught the grounds for their opinions, and that having been taught these grounds, they do not then merely hold prejudices but really understand the basis of their opinions

3. Truth may be justifiably persecuted, because persecution is something that truth should have to face.

4. No true opinion will ever be extinguished.

With that being said, J. S. Mill's statements can be applied to this modern medium and the hubbub around it as a way to let people realize that before the pitchforks are raised, consideration of the reason why people are angry and whether they should be, ought to be applied.
