A very influential figure for cartoonists and animators throughout the 20th century. He is best known for his creation of the "Little Nemo in Slumberland" comic strip published on October 15, 1905 with various releases between 1905 and 1914. The strip displayed McCay's mastery of depth of field, use of color, perspective, and storytelling ability. McCay also created the major film, Gertie the Dinosaur in 1914, one of the earliest examples of animation art in film.
