Beginning in 1906, there was a large conservationist movement that was sweeping across America. When local government proposed that a dam be built on Hetch Hetchy river, conservationists and naturalists throughout America harshly fought against the creation of the dam that would harm local forests and nature. Despite the opposition, after a large fire and earthquake struck the area, the dam was built.
