After the U.S. declared war on Japan, Japan joined the Axis Powers and fought alongside Germany and Italy. Together with England, France, the Soviet Union, and others, the United States fought the Axis Powers until they surrendered in 1945, thus ending the war. World War II was the deadliest war in history, with over 70 million casualties.
