Many tensions, such as Spaniards claiming New Mexico, the Apache stealing cattle and weapons, and the many white settlers entering Apache land for the gold rush, triggered the Apache wars. Many Apache Tribes (Chiricahua, Jicarilla, Mescalero, and Chihenne) fought against the Americans over these tensions.
