Short Message Service (SMS) is a text messaging service component of phone, web or mobile phone devices to exchange short messages between mobile phones.

The first text message was sent on 3rd December 1992. It was sent by a PC (mobile phones didn't have keyboards at the time) to a Vodaphone director Richard Jarvis and said 'Merry Christmas'
