The Battle of Ortona was one of many battles fought in Italy. The purpose of capturing this city was to establish a new front in southern Europe. Doing this was not easy though, fighting would ensue for eight days. In this eight-day span, roughly 2,300 Canadian soldiers were killed in the fighting.5.
