According to Dahl’s last undelivered reports, a few days after the ARK team head into the abyss, Ross is found dead on the Climber. The climber can’t be operated from the abyss, “so there was a scheduled retrieval.” Ross’s body is brought to Omicron. Lisa Cameron, Dr. Eames, and Paula Lansky study the body inside containment. The WAU is “making a big buzz” about Ross dying. It’s overloading the systems—including the black boxes—and giving the staff headaches, disrupting their sleep, and causing general stress. Crewmembers are bleeding from the nose and eyes. Dahl thinks these side effects have to do with the WAU’s efforts to somehow free Ross: “I wouldn’t be surprised if the body just got up and left.”
