Cragside in Northumberland was the first house to be powered by hydroelectricity.

An archimedes screw is a turbine that is shaped as a screw. The archimedes in Cragside is 17 metres long and weighs a couple tonnes. The water is collected from Cragside's Tumbleton Lake. The water flows from the lake then passes through spiral blades causing the screw to turn. The energy is then transferred to electricity using a generator.
WHY
This event is important is acknowledge because it states the first house that was ever fully powered by hydroelectricity. It dates back to show how hydroelectricity worked, and the way the people lived in the era.
