The British discover the Zimmerman telegram which was a telegram sent by Germany to Mexico. It proposed an alliance between Germany and Mexico, if America joined the war on the side of the Allies, and Germany would help Mexico reconquer the territories they lost during the Mexican-American war, such as Texas, New Mexico and Arizona.
Americans were eager to wage war against Germany.
