16 ч 52 мин, 1 май 1962 г. - Aboriginal Australians receive the right to vote federally.

Описание:

In 1962, the Australian Federal Government—under Robert Menzies—amended the Commonwealth Electoral Act to give Indigenous people the right to enrol and vote in Commonwealth elections. Though if they did enrol, it was necessary that they do so as non-Indigenous citizens. These laws did not however affect local state-level elections. This was a major step in Australia’s progressive movement toward levelling the rights of Indigenous people’s rights with those of European decent, as it gave Aboriginal Australians a political voice to which they were previously not entitled.
