The battle of Nashville was the last battle in an awful year for General Hood's Confederate troops. By now the troops had already lost the city of Atlanta in Georgia, but things were about to go down south further. In an attempt to draw Union troops out of the deep South Hood took his men to the city of Nashville in Tennessee, however Sherman had enough men to spilt his troops and did so.

Before the battle of Nashville, on November 30th, Hood's man had already suffered casualties due to an attack on Schofield's Union troops. However Hood still ordered his man to follow the Union troop to Nashville.

Nashville's defences were top notch and all the odds were against Hood's troops. Nonetheless Hood ordered his men to attack the city of Nashville. Union troops counterattacked and overran the Confederate troops pushing them more than a mile back. A day later the Union placed another attack which had the Confederate troops retreat even further into Mississippi.

This attack is a clear example of the lack of leadership and tactical plan making towards the end of the civil war on the Confederate side. Morals were low and the Southerners were desperate for a victory. The Union was too well organised and supplied.
