Charles V and his forces stormed Italy and was in control. These forces continued to sack Rome and this terrorized the population of Italy. The HRE now had more power and Italy was submissive to them. The HRE spent more time involved in this war, and Protestantism was developing more rapidly at home which created internal instability for the Holy Roman Empire.
