Another invention later in the 19th century were electrical telegraphs. By using one wire per letter you could use the electricity to send messages. These were used for communication, which helped make living in the west easier as you know what's happening through news as they were up to date from telegraphs. Also this helped businesses like the rail road industry coordinate the movements of the trains.
