On April 19, 1775, British General Thomas Gage ordered 700 troops from Boston to destroy the rebel's stores of arms and ammunition. These stores were located in the
rebel controlled land (Concord). The British began marching in the middle of the night, this allowed colonists (like Paul Revere) to go ahead of time to warn the colonists that the British were coming. This gave the colonists plenty of time to prepare, so by the time the British reached Concord, the colonists outnumbered the British, forcing the British to retreat to Boston.
